I started Canary because I kept watching the same thing happen. A business owner I respected, usually somebody running an agency or a firm they'd built over a decade, would tell me they weren't sure what their coverage actually did or if it was keeping up. They had a policy. They paid for it every year. Somewhere along the way they stopped asking questions and the people who placed it had stopped reviewing it. When something changed in the business, like adding a new service, a partner exit, or a conversation about selling, the coverage hadn't kept up, and nobody had discussed it.

The name comes from the canary in the coal mine motif. The bird that pays attention and notices changes in its environment early on. That's the work, honestly: ask the right questions before the situation gets complicated, surface what other people might miss, and bring some clarity to decisions that usually feel murky. Thirteen-plus years working within the carrier side, the broker side, and the retail side gave me a pretty clear view of where coverage or the relationship typically breaks down. Canary is the version of the relationship I always wanted my clients to have: open, honest, and dependable.

What that looks like in practice is pretty simple. I start with listening. Not a 40-question intake form. A real conversation about how your business actually runs, where you're trying to take it, and where the exposure might be hiding. If I can cover it, I'll seek out coverage options. If I can't, I'll help you think about it differently.
